One could wander, if Guardiola's side had kept their composure in the final stages of the 1st leg against Barcelona or if Lewandowski had converted that single glorious chance for an away goal provided by the hardworking Mueller, perhaps just perhaps the Barvarians would be singing a different song now.
The second leg tie lived up to its high expectations with both teams pressing high right from the start with Bayern well aware of the glaring fact that they need to convert early if they where to have any chance of going to Berlin without conceding. So it was, hope was rekindled when Mehdi Benatia headed home a corner whipped in by Alonso, but this was not Shakhtar Donetsk or Porto who where brushed aside ruthlessly at the Allianz Arena, this was a Barcelona side in great from, with arguably the best three forwards scoring goals for fun and aiming for a treble. Unsurprisingly, Barcelona got back in the game with two goals from Neymar thanks to the characteristic unselfishness from Louis Suarez.
Although Bayern, eventually came out on top thanks to clinical finishing from Muller and Lewandowski, the harm had already been done, there was not going to be a miraculous come back.
Certain questions have to be asked, are Bayern reliant on 30 year old players such as the like of Robben and Ribery to run at defenders with the ball at their feet? Are the players losing confidence in Pep given that this could have been their 5th consecutive defeat in all competitions?
However so, Guardiola would have to delve deep into the transfer market this summer in search of younger talent to reinvigorate his aging squad. If there any positives to take from this match, it's that Bayern still have that fighting spirit and bow out of the semis in style hoping to bounce back next season.
